To Parents - Any volunteers?
Are you able to help out with assisting our coaches and our team managers? We are holding a meeting next Monday March 31st in the pavilion at 8pm to prepare for the management of the Junior Section over the summer which with 168 members (2007) and 71 matches arranged you can appreciate this does take some organising. If you are interested in assisting please come along to the meeting if you are able to. Whilst we are very fortunate in the number of volunteers that are helping us we are particularly seeking persons willing to assist the Team Managers/Coaches with the admin in the Under 7, Under 13, Under 14 and Under 15 age groups. I attach a task description showing what is involved. If there is any parent of boys in these age groups that are able to help but cannot attend the meeting would they please let me know.

GKCC Junior Newsletter
– Xmas 2007
At this time of year between Xmas and the New Year we traditionally reflect on the previous year and look at ways of improving in the new. In the Junior Section at Great Kingshill Cricket Club we can be encouraged by the number of children both boys and girls that became members in 2007, 168 in total. However this success also brings its own problems. One area of concern in 2007 was the fact that we were unable to give all members in the U11 to U13 age groups games in league matches, so in 2008 we have decided to enter more teams in the competitions.
In 2008 we shall be organising matches at Under 9, 2 teams at Under 11, Under 12, 2 teams at Under 13, 2 teams at Under 14, Under 15 and Under 17. In addition we shall be entering a Girls team in an Under 11 competition.
We also need more qualified coaches to assist at the
practice sessions and co-ordinate the various teams. I am very pleased to
report that we have 9 persons (playing members and parents) who are taking
their

GKCC Under 9's Crowned Champions!
Great Kingshill Under 9's won the Aylesbury District League tonight in a play-off final against Cublington.
Once again, an awesome bowling performance did the trick, plus a match winning innings from Callum Mapley and great keeping from Alex Prothero.
Report follows below.

Joe & Ethan lift the trophy
Here are the boys' figures for Monday's final at Bledlow.
Great Kingshill won the toss and elected to bat.

Which nets up to a score of 252, our lowest score of the tournament... and seemingly not enough if Cublington were as good with the bat as they were in the field. But things could have been so much worse had it not been for Callum Mapley's outstanding innings, well supported by Alex, as the final pairing. Callum's six off the last ball would have made Kevin Pietersen proud.
But the omens were not good. Cublington had not scored less than 300 in any game this season. The boys would have to bowl even better than we've become used to.
Which is exactly what they did, pinning Cublington back with such accurate bowling and sharp fielding that the opposition never looked like seriously achieving the 253 required. In the end they scored 208, giving GKCC a victory by 44 runs!

Special mentions must go to Ethan who led from the front with very accurate bowling and excellent figures; and Harry Fountain who also turned in great figures. Behind the stumps, Alex took at least two catches and two stumpings, earning the admiration of the opposition coaches (as well as ours!). And three run outs showed that all that hard work on fielding paid off.

CHAMPIONS!
Well done boys. You made your coaches very proud indeed.

GKCC Junior Newsletter June 2007
I hope you have enjoyed what cricket that we have been able to play so far this season, as to date we have had 11 junior matches cancelled due to the inclement weather. We are also coming to the last few weeks of the league season and I have arranged the additional friendly fixtures against Wendover C.C.
Tuesday, July 3rd Under 11’s at Wendover 6pm start
Tuesday , July 3rd Under 17’s at GKCC 6pm start
Thursday, July 5th Under 14’s at GKCC 6pm start
Thursday, July 12th Under 15’s at Wendover 6pm start
Friday, July 13th Under 10’s at GKCC 6pm start
Wednesday, July 18th Under 13’s at GKCC 6pm start
We have been pleasantly surprised at the influx of new members particularly in the Under 12 and 13 age groups this year but this has meant that some junior members have not played in a match situation, so in order for them to experience match play we are organising inter club matches for the Under 11, 12 and 13 age groups as follows:
Under 11 A team v Under 11 B team on Friday July 6th at 6pm
Under 12 A team v Under 12 B team on Monday July 2nd at 6pm
Under 13 A team v Under 13 B team on Monday July 9th at 6pm
These matches will be hardball using same rules as league games so full cricket equipment will be used. The club have sufficient equipment but boys should bring their own if they have it. Boys will also be expected to wear white cricket clothing.
These 20 overs per innings games usually finish around 8.30pm. We will be checking those of you who are available for these games over the next training sessions.
Sunday July 22nd 2007 – a themed Caribbean Fun Day for all the Family
As mentioned in the May Newsletter, the last Sunday of the summer term coincides with our Presidents Day where there is an all day game being held at the club. The Club committee have decided to make this a themed “Caribbean Fun Day for all the Family”. The match which is between a GKCC XI and the Legends XI starts at 10.45 with lunch between 13.15 and 14.15. The Legends XI consists of ex and long serving current players.
Instead of holding the normal Sunday morning cricket session, during the lunch interval, there will be four kwik cricket matches being played between the respective members of the Under 7’s, Under 9’s, Under 11’s and Girls Section.
In addition from around 11.00hrs there will also be a number of fun attractions such as:
There will also be a Hog Roast and a licensed bar so I am sure it will be a fun day so let us hope that the weather is kind to us. If you log on to the club website, www.gkcc.co.uk you will see what a palm fringed GKCC ground would look like!!
If you would like to take part in the junior matches please e-mail richard_cricketman@tiscali.co.uk
Summer Holidays
I would also ask you to complete the attached reply slip to advise me when you will be taking your holidays because if there are sufficient players available I would like to try and arrange some friendly matches for the various age groups during the school holidays.
School
We are again holding cricket courses for age groups 8 to 12 year old boys and girls over 2 weeks from the 6th to 9th August 2007 and 13th to 16th August 2007 from 10am to 2pm each day.
Prices of courses are:
Standard Price: £40.00
60% Freestyle Member: £16.00
Second Child Discount: £20.00
60% Freestyle Member Discount: £8.00
However there is a slight change to the way the courses are organised in as much as we are holding these courses as part of the School Holiday Sports Activities in conjunction with Wycombe District Council Sports Coaching Scheme. If you are interested in attending the cricket courses it will be necessary for you to complete a booking form and apply to Wycombe District Council direct. I do have a supply of the brochure and booking form so if you would like to attend please ask me for one. All bookings are on a first come first served basis and places will not be reserved so you will not be able to just turn up on the day as payment has to be made to the Wycombe D.C.
Additional information and booking forms are also available by clicking onto www.wycombe.gov.uk/sportsdevelopment and scroll down to Holiday Activities and then follow the link.
League and Cup results
Results of junior matches now appear in the Fixtures section of this website. Additionally the results and league tables can be found on the Bucks Cricket Board website www.buckscb.org
Also the Under 9’s, who are unbeaten in their three games played to date, their results and league table are on the Aylesbury & District Midweek League website www.admcl.co.uk

May half term Cricket Camp
This May half-term Great Kingshill will be holding 3 days of Summer Cricket Coaching hosted by ECBCA qualified coaches. The courses will be run on the following days in May:
@ GKCC, THE
COMMON, GREAT
The courses run from 10am to 3pm each day and you can sign up for individual days at £15 or all 3 for £40. The schemes are open for boys and girls currently in years 2-8. All you need to bring along is a packed lunch, appropriate summer clothing and plenty of enthusiasm. We recommend that a cap and sun tan lotion are brought as we hope its going to be nice and sunny. We will provide water and squash refreshments throughout the day. Specialist equipment will be provided but feel free to bring your own kit if you wish.
The days will look at all aspects of the game and give a flavour of each. It is ideal as an introduction to cricket or as an opportunity to work on specific areas of your game with our bowling machine ( for those of an appropriate age and ability). The week will finish with some assessments and a full game to put into practise all that has been learnt during the time there.
Registration of Members
You will all be aware that we have had problems with the registration of members on the www.gkcc.co.uk website. However I am assured, I have also tested it myself, that the registration process is now operational. Therefore I would ask all members to login to the site and a) if they are existing members go into the site and check that the details entered are correct or b) if they are new members go into the site and as soon as your account is activated enter the details on to the Registration form and print off and hand it to me at the next session.
If you still have a problem send an e-mail to info@gkcc.co.uk giving details of the problem that you are experiencing and our IT brains will help you solve it.
I would also ask those new members who have paid the sub via the Payment Form that I sent you to also register on line as it will save me a lot of time compiling the database.
I would remind all players that they are not full members of the club until the annual subs have been paid.
Players selected for matches
Members will normally be advised by e-mail as to whether or not they are selected for any of the Junior teams so it is therefore important that you check your e-mails regularly and if selected reply to the
e-mail as soon as possible so that the Team Manager does not have to chase you up with telephone calls. You all have access to the Fixtures via the Junior Section of the website and you should all receive a copy of the club fixture card from me at the next match or training session. Please note that there is also a match fee of £1 per player which should be handed to your team manager on the day of the match.

NEWSLETTER OF GT. KINGSHILL CRICKET CLUB JUNIOR SECTION
Junior Teams
The details of the practice sessions are :
Under 12 and 13: Mondays April 23rd and 30th
Under 14: Tuesdays April 24th and May 1st
We are starting a Girls Section up this year and the training sessions will be on Sunday mornings from 10am to 11.30am starting from April 29th 2007. We have been fortunate in obtaining the services of Stephen Goldthorpe to coach the girls who are expected to be in the main from school years 3 to 6. If there is sufficient support we will play friendly matches against other girls teams and enter festivals organised by the Bucks Girls cricket. We will be promoting the Girls section when coaching in local schools.
For those of you that would like to know more about this very important role in a cricket team and wish to be considered for wicket-keepers in the various age groups we will be holding wicket-keeping specific coaching sessions on Thursdays, April 26th and May 3rd, from 6.30pm to 8pm.
Membership Fees
The cost of membership is £30 for the summer term and there is a £1 match fee when playing for any of the Junior teams. There is a family membership, so for 2 children the cost is £25 each and for 3 children the cost is £20 each. This fee also includes social membership for parents. For existing members, ie in 2006 summer season, I am attaching a Payment Form with the e-mail to be completed for each child. Please bring the form and the fee on either of the first two sessions and cheques should be made payable to Great Kingshill C.C. You should be aware that you are not a full member until fees have been paid thus qualifying to play in the various competitions.
Player registration
We will continue on-line registration for new members on the website. Log on and click the Juniors tab then the Register tab and follow instructions. As soon as the account is activated you can complete the registration form, print it off and bring to the practice sessions with your cheque. We did have a few problems last year, particularly when there is family membership. Our IT expert has modified the process to allow multiple players for a single account. Existing members should print off and complete the Payment Form sent with this newsletter. However it would be helpful if those families with more than one playing member go into their account and add all players to the database.

Pavilion/Ground tidy up
Members are meeting on Saturday, April 14th from 9.30am to spruce up the ground and pavilion and erect the cricket net. Please come along and assist if at all possible as many hands make light work.
Volunteers
As a result of the C2S programme and the introduction of a Girls section we expect even more new members which will put additional pressure on our officials, coaches and their assistants. Therefore if any parent would like to assist at coaching sessions or with any other role please do let me know.
We have a requirement for a person to take the register, collect the registration forms and subs on the Monday evening training sessions. If there is a parent able to spend around 20/30 minutes to help with this role on Monday evenings when they drop off their child please let me know.
Bowling Machine
The club have purchased a Bola bowling machine which will assist the coaches to develop batting skills. The negative side to this is that the coach can only work with 1 or 2 players at a time and on busy evening practice sessions is not always the best use of the net and the coach. However we will arrange “one to one “ coaching sessions on Saturday mornings for any members interested. There will be an additional charge of £20 per hour ( £10 per 30mins) with a maximum of 2 members per session.
Non Turf Pitch (NTP)
A NTP has been installed on the cricket square and all matches from Under 9 to Under 13 will be played on this pitch. It will also enable us to use this for middle practice and an additional net facility with erection of the mobile net. Please note that cricket boots/shoes with spikes will not be permitted on the NTP.
Introduction to cricket skills
Steve Goldthorpe ECB Staff Coach is willing to run an Introductory Coaching Course which is aimed at parents who wish either to assist the qualified coaches at the club sessions or simply to help their children develop. The course is usually run over 3 sessions of 3 hours and as Stephen will be coaching the girls on Sunday mornings we will try and arrange this course for Saturday mornings. Any parent interested in participating should let me know and if there is sufficient support we will run the course.
Fixtures
Fixtures have been arranged for age groups at Under 9,11,12,13,14 ,15 and 17
We are planning to run a cricket holiday club at the Common over the half term week at the end of May and for two weeks commencing August 6th 2007. Make a note in your diary and further details will be e-mailed and entered on our website when the programmes are finalised. Players will be able to attend on a daily or weekly basis.
2nd XI Scorer
We are seeking a scorer/s for our Saturday 2nd XI and it would suit a junior member who will receive copious amounts of cricket teas and soft drinks as well as some pocket money. If he brings along his cricket kit he will be the official 12th man in the event that there is a last minute drop out or injury. I am also told by the Bucks CDO that completing such a task can be put forward as part of a Duke of Edinburgh award as can umpiring at Junior matches.
Chance to Shine – bringing cricket to State Schools
Great
Kingshill C.C. for the second year is taking part in the initiative of the ECB
Cricket Foundation to bring cricket back to State Schools. This initiative is
primarily aimed at Years 5, 6 and 7 and we have agreed to do 20 hours coaching
per week for 12 weeks in the Summer Term in six different schools. We will also
be running the holiday cricket camps at the Club in May and August. The six
schools with whom we have agreed to coach both during curriculum time and after
school are
